Over 5,500 Guides and Scouts from 38 countries are arriving in Norway next week for the highly anticipated 7th Roverway. Young people aged 16 to 22 will take part in this outdoor event, which promises to be an enriching blend of adventure, education, and cultural exchange.
The event, being hosted by The Guides and Scouts of Norway, with support from government partners and local authorities, will take place from 22 July to 2 August in Norway. During the first six days of the event, participants will join mini-camps taking place all around Norway. For the second half of the event, young people between the ages of 16 and 22 will have the opportunity to take part in a wide range of educational programmes and outdoor adventure activities that promote peace, sustainability, cross-cultural exchange, and leadership skills at the campsite in Lundsneset, in Hundvåg (Stavanger).
“Roverway is a vital platform for young people from diverse backgrounds to come together, explore new cultures, and develop crucial leadership skills. It fosters a spirit of unity, sustainability, and global citizenship, empowering the next generation to make a positive impact on the world. We are excited to welcome Guides and Scouts to Norway for this transformative experience.” said Simmen Karoliussen, Director of Roverway 2024.
With strong support from government partners and local authorities, Roverway 2024 will be held from 22 July to 2 August. The first half of the event, known as “The Path,” will see participants embarking on mini-camps scattered across Norway, from 22-27July. These 61 mini-camps, engaging over 4,300 young people, will offer immersive experiences of Norway’s natural beauty, rich culture, and historical heritage. Highlights include exploring the world’s oldest paddle steamer “Skibladner” on Lake Mjøsa, trekking the ancient Old Kings Route over Dovre, and hiking to glaciers to learn firsthand about climate change.
From 27 July to 2 August, all participants will converge at the main campsite in Lundsneset, Hundvåg (Stavanger). Here, they will partake in diverse educational programmes and outdoor activities to foster peace, sustainability, cross-cultural exchange, and leadership skills.
The main campsite will buzz with a variety of activities, including outdoor adventures, water sports, and numerous networking opportunities. The event will kick off with an exhilarating opening ceremony on 27 July, featuring musical performances, mesmerising light shows, inspiring talks and elements of Norwegian culture, creating an unforgettable experience for all attendees. Other key dates include International Day on 29 July and the closing ceremony on 1 August..
Roverway 2024 places a strong emphasis on sustainable development. Guides and Scouts will engage in interactive workshops and activities supported by the Erasmus+ Programme, with international partners like Amnesty International delivering sessions on the Sustainable Development Goals.
Roverway is organised by the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS) and World Organisation of the Scout Movement (WOSM). Starting in 2003, Roverway has been held every three to four years, inspiring thousands of young people and volunteers. The previous edition in 2018 was held in the Netherlands, continuing the tradition of empowering youth through meaningful gatherings.
