As the paths are coming to an end, we would like to give a shout out to the hundreds of volunteers who have been organising the amazing programmes for the Scouts and Guides across Norway, Sweden, and Denmark. They are the ones who have been making the Path experiences possible – and they are the heroes of the first half of Roverway. Therefore, we are highlighting some of these Path Leaders in this article.
Markus
Markus is currently the path leader that is leading the Rovers in exploring Røros, one of the most important mining towns in Norway. Røros is like taking a step back in time with houses that have been preserved from the 1700’s. Markus chose to lead this path to learn about the history of Røros and its copper mine past, as within the town there were once many operating mines that generated tons of copper from rocks within the mine. Markus has also been teaching the patrol some Norwegian so they have been fully immersed in Norwegian culture.
Olivia
Olivia is a part of UK Girlguiding and signed up to Roverway because since the Pandemic she wanted to do something fun, adventurous, and different. Originally she was nervous to be a part of the Path but now is really glad she joined and is loving her time on the WAGGGS Path. She is leading a path based out of Hemnes, Norway and is surrounded by nature. Olivia was really interested in seeing a lot of the nature of Norway, how people live here, and what it’s like day to day in rural Norway to compare this to her own small hometown back in the UK.
Charles
Charles is a Luxemburg Scout and this is his first international leading a path which is specialised in Canoeing. For his Path he has been based at one of the many beautiful lakes in Norway. He’s been really impressed how the patrols from eight different nationalities have been getting along and enjoying their time together. Charles at only 22 years old has been preparing for this Path and to be a part of Roverway for a while and is super excited to see that it is now happening and to see the young participants getting involved in the Path with the Canoeing and swimming.
Lana
Lana is from Bosnia and Herzegovina and eight years ago she started volunteering there for WOSM and is delivering the WOSM Path, Impact of Scouting, for Roverway. On the Path they have been looking at how Scouting is impacting the development of young people. They are exploring how the Scouts develop different skills during their Scouting lifetime. They’ve been running different workshops while on Path, for instance they’ve been using art as a means of reflecting on their emotions and other people’s emotions – showing their own emotional Scouting journey. They were also reflecting during a hike on how Scouting helps them to live a healthier life. She enjoyed seeing everyone discovering new elements about themselves as Scouts while on the Path.
Evidently, because of differences in regards to educational content, activities and locations, all Path leaders delivered very different Paths. Once everyone arrives at Main Camp, we are sure you will have a bunch of amazing stories to share with each other!
