Roverway is all about coming together to shape the future and create wonderful memories. For that to happen, some more practical aspects need to be taken care of so everyone is in the right mindset. Having good meals is one of the most important aspects. The food depot is where the participants are getting their meals. Here is an inside view of the work done there.
Malin, the Head of Food Depot, explained how the place works:
“It’s here, at the food depot, that participants get all their food. For breakfast and lunch, the food depot is almost like a store. So the people will come by, and pick up what they need to eat. They have bread and spread, ham, and they also get some fruits. And juices, and a lot of milk, but people do not drink it much.
So when they have picked up everything they need for their Tropp, they have to get to the check out station to scan everything out, so we know what is in the storage. So we know when to order more, and what to order more of.
We can order on a day to day basis, except for Sunday. That’s why we had a little crisis with the spread. I don’t know if you heard, but we ran out of salami, for example. The people were a bit sad about it, so we fixed it as fast as possible and we got new today (Monday), and we’ll also get more tomorrow to please the people.
We also have a station for packing dinner. It’s on the shelfs. We have dinner in large bags, which are already prepared, so we just put the right one in the boxes, from our list saying how many people there are. And then we hand it out to the participants when they say what Tropp they’re from.
Today, we will receive tomorrow’s dinner, so we store it in our cooling container for the next day. We don’t know if dinner will arrive between 10:00 in the morning or 16:00 in the afternoon so we need to have some room. And then we can also check if there is something wrong with the delivery.
Most people with special dietary needs have their food here too. So we have some milk free and soya free butter in the first fridge, and we have gluten free bread. And the people with really special allergies, they eat at the staff canteen, because there they can have more control and it’s easier for them to have more specific staff. So everyone is being taken care of.”
Thanks a lot to Malin and everyone working in the food depot. It’s thanks to them all that the food is available on time for the participants. By planning in advance and always knowing how many of each item they have in stock, the food depot’s team takes care of an important part of the Roverway and helps us getting together through food.
