Paths have begun at Roverway! Participants have arrived in Norway and got to meet other Guides and Scouts, started setting up tents and getting to know one another. We were there to witness some of the interactions: How did arrival and the first day go? Read further!
Paths are the first half of Roverway and are happening between 22 and 27 July. They are like mini-camps with all kinds of activities including more physical ones like canoeing and also some more culture oriented. There is something for everybody!
On the first day of Path, energy was overflowing all across the different paths, and we couldn’t be more excited that Roverway has officially started!
On Monday, most participants were arriving at their destinations. In Sagmoen, just north of Oslo, a group of Lithuanian Guides and Scouts we talked to had just finished the long journey from their home country, passing through Latvia, and then Oslo, finally getting to their destination at Path ØS04. It was quite the journey, but they made it! The Spanish patrol still had lots of energy after arriving – we found them having fun waving their flags around! The Path leaders told us they had not seen, but rather heard them arriving! That’s how big the commotion was!
At the next stop, just a little further, in Fenstad, we were greeted by much clamour! The Slovenian Guides and Scouts arriving really created an electrified ambiance. After dinner, the Portuguese turned up the heat by running around singing while cleaning the dinner room and, right after, even played a football match.
Even though they had only just arrived, participants already got to try some traditional Norwegian food. It was one of the Swiss patrols at the Røros Path, further up north, that had much to say about the traditional brunost (a unique traditional brown cheese): “It tastes good, but it’s horrible!”.
And even though these cheery Guides and Scouts were only just arriving to their Paths, there was one Austrian patrol over in Horve, south of Stavanger, who beat everyone to it! They managed to arrive one day early and helped set up the camp by building the path gate (and even a shower!) for their fellow Guides and Scouts.
