Over the past five days of the main camp, there were many activities available. Divided in seven categories, every participant could experience them all: cultural activities, networking activities, outdoor skills, water activities, sustainability, free time (side programme), and Stavanger activities. We asked participants what their favorite activity was, and why.
Over the past five days of the main camp, there were many activities available. Divided in seven categories, every participant could experience them all: cultural activities, networking activities, outdoor skills, water activities, sustainability, free time (side programme), and Stavanger activities. We asked participants what their favorite activity was, and why.
Tajron (he/him), 17 years old, from Switzerland
When we met Tajron, he was just coming back from canoeing. He liked that activity, but the one he liked most was about mindfulness. That activity was especially pleasant for him because he liked the meditating atmosphere. Being able to be in a quiet space, just chilling and drawing mandala was cool. It was an occasion to ground yourself and relax, mindly away from the noises and constant movements of the camp.
Prym (she/her), 20 years old, from Germany, and Fabio (he/him), 22 years old, from Austria
Prym and Fabio’s highlight was the day in Stavanger. They particularly liked being able to explore a new city and being out of the campsite. During their time in town, they found it cool to see how many Guides and Scouts were there and the ambiance it created. When you see another Guide or Scout, you recognise each other and if you need help, with direction for example, there are plenty of people that could help you. Prym and Fabio met many new friends in Stavanger, so many that they had to split the group a few times because it was getting bigger and bigger. But they still made sure everyone was included and could do something interesting with their time there. Overall, they really appreciated exploring with new friends.
Oscar (they/them), 18 years old, from the UK, and Jamie (he/him), 20 years old, from the UK
Jamie and Oscar, though both are from the UK and living near each other, met during Roverway. For them, Roverway is about meeting new people from everywhere around the world, but they also find it awesome to meet people from their own country. It’s no surprise then that their favorite activity is going to the Rainbow Cafe. One time, when they were starting to apply nail polish, someone just came and showed them how to do it properly. Jamie and Oscar enjoyed that moment of fun and learning opportunity. In general, they find it cool how people come to the Rainbow Cafe to chill, play games and share scouting experiences from around the world in a positive ambiance.
Danna (she/her), 21 years old, from Denmark, and Simon (he/him), 19 years old, from Denmark
Both from Denmark, Danna and Simon were fond of the canoeing activity. That’s something they do a lot in Denmark, and they appreciated doing an activity for which they already had practical knowledge of. It allowed them to just chill in the canoe together with some friends, and enjoy the view. They found the landscapes here are beautiful, and it is nice to have time to have a look around. They also appreciated canoeing because the activity makes you exercise too. It’s an association of sport, friendship, fun and beautiful views.
Tim (il/lui), 18 ans, du Luxembourg (since Tim preferred to have the interview in French, we decided to keep it this way in the article)
The activities available on Roverway’s main camp are diverse and give rich experiences to all participants. There is something for everyone here, from physical activities, to mindfulness and social gatherings. Thanks to all the ISTs (International Service Team) who made that possible by being there everyday. Roverway is full of opportunities for everyone to learn and grow. What was your camp highlight?
